When your mind is a volcano and your thoughts are lava

“Don’t think too much, just shut up and let me breathe”. That’s what I say to myself when my mind is overboard with random thoughts. My mind is a volcano that erupts thoughts just like lava, making me lose all my senses. It’s a battle I alone have to fight, and not an easy one.

Respect and cherish the things you have always taken for granted. For me, it is Nature. Tress, plants, flowers, the sky, the sun, and the moon.

My mind knows no boundaries, no limits in housing bizarre thoughts. It gets tiring sometimes, but most of the time I don’t even realize I’m thinking as it has become so natural to me. I’m afraid that’s not good news. What scares me even more is that that it stops me from living at the moment, as I’m so much more concerned about what thoughts my mind is cooking today.

How do I stop this? What should I do to stop my giant head from grinding up those strange thoughts? Stop! Please! Will you? Yes, that’s how I plead my mind to stop and drop its leash hanging over my head.

I’m not thinking of ending my blog on how overthinking affects me. But on a positive note, how I try every day to calm and relax my mind. Here it goes:

1. The more engaged you are, the less of the time your mind has to cook any peculiar thoughts

I try, with great emphasis on the word ‘try’, to keep myself busy so I indulge a little in the thinking part. Luckily, I have varied interests with the best being watching movies and writing. I like to write and this I realized some time back when I was working as a content writer to a firm.

Writing helps me release my anxieties and calm me to the core. The same goes for the films as when I’m watching them, I feel the most alive. Other than this, I try to sketch, paint, read and cook. I’ll be lying if I say I don’t like to sit idle and do nothing as it’s what I love the most. Just sitting and giving my mind some time to heal and breathe. I do that and try hard not to let it get interrupted with the thoughts that mean little to me.

2. Talk to people who bring positivity in your life

*Touchwood* I have some amazing people in my life. My friends and family bring the best and the worst out of me, for which I’m glad. It was only when I went to college I could understand the importance of having a family, a caring mother, a responsible father, and an inspirational sister. I thank God for giving me the best of friends and family.

3. Appreciate the little things

The fans, the lights, mirror, paintbrush. Joking! Respect and cherish the things you have always taken for granted. For me, it is Nature. Tress, plants, flowers, the sky, the sun, and the moon. All of it, I used to see them but never really feel these beauties. Now, when I look at them, I breathe in every ounce. How beautiful are the trees, swaying with the wind; the melancholy of birds in the morning, the sound of rain adding warmth to my life, and so much more. John Keats said it right, “A thing of beauty is a joy forever”.

I’m happy with my life. Though I’m nowhere near my goals and desires, I am happy. Every day, I try hard to think less and do more. And every day I succeed a little more than the previous day.

Quote of the Day:

“To think too much is a disease.”

– Fyodor Dostoyevsky
